Hi there, and welcome to the Paris Psychologist. I’m Nicole Ricken, an American Psychologist, activist, public speaker, and musician practicing in Paris, France. As a writer, it felt only natural to curate a virtual space dedicated to my craft, where I can transmit my various thoughts and musings on the complexities of being human. Within these posts, I aim to incorporate practical wisdom and valuable resources to help you navigate the challenges you may encounter in your own life.
I’m excited to announce the launch of my “Survivorship Series”, an installment that delves into themes of trauma and the healing process. I’ve been profoundly inspired by the work of fellow practitioners in the healing arts who share their personal journeys with authenticity, humility, and candor. These writers have influenced me to be more forthcoming in expressing my own voice and perspective surrounding these important topics. Through relevant anecdotes and insight extracted from my own experiences, combined with scientific research, I hope to add texture, color, and depth to the healing landscape.
Though experiential knowledge is certainly not a prerequisite to helping others, when integrated with theory and evidence-based practice, it proves powerful. My goal is to weave together all of these elements, to lay the roadmap and hold up a lantern for those navigating their own darkness - not in spite of having been there too, but because of it.
“In my own life, as I grappled with my weaknesses, I found my work as a healer deepened because I could walk with others in a different way.”
Parker J. Palmer
I hope that these written offerings resonate with you, and that you’ll come along for the ride. Together, we’ll hold the human experience up to the light, behold it from all angles and examine its many facets. Perhaps we’ll walk away from it with a deeper appreciation for what it means to be here. I’m looking forward to it all.
All the very best,
